Description:

Already know the basics? Ready to learn the skill that is actually shaping employability in tech right now?

Python Programming for Intermediates + AI Literacy takes students beyond traditional coding to teach them how to work with AI – not be replaced by it. Recent research shows a striking pattern in the job market: roles built around routine, AI-replicable coding have fallen sharply, while roles requiring genuine problem-solving, system understanding, and the ability to direct AI tools effectively are growing fast. This camp is built directly around that shift.

Students learn real “vibe-coding” skills – using AI tools like large language models to accelerate their programming, debug faster, and tackle more ambitious projects – while developing the underlying understanding needed to know whether the AI’s output is actually correct. This is the critical skill most people miss: AI can write code instantly, but only someone who understands programming can tell whether that code is right, safe, and doing what it’s supposed to do.

Students who blindly trust AI-generated code without that understanding are left exposed – we teach them to be the ones in control, not the ones caught out.

Across the week, students strengthen their core Python skills – including lists, functions, and graphical programming – while learning how to break down complex problems, write effective prompts, and critically evaluate AI-generated solutions. The week builds towards a standout final project: students design and build a computer “player” for a simple game, working out which parts of the logic to write themselves and where AI tools can genuinely help – then testing, debugging, and understanding every line of result.

This camp is led by an experienced Head of Computing and supported by Computer Science undergraduates – former students who understand exactly how the tech industry and university admissions are evolving around AI right now.

What students will be able to do by the end of the week:

Use loops, functions, and lists confidently at a deeper level.

Use AI tools effectively to support coding and know when to question their output.

Break down complex problems into clear, logical steps before writing or prompting any code.

Build graphical, interactive programmes

Explain why understanding code matters more than ever in an AI-powered world.

Build and present a substantial final project, with a clear understanding of every part of it.
